Bardi Chapel
The Bardi Chapel frescoes are considered among the apex of Giotto’s art. The decoration of the chapel narrates the stories of St. Francis, thereby using the same subject as in the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi.  The cycle, on each of the two walls, consists of a lunette at the top and two large rectangular boxes below. The authenticity of the painting by Giotto has always been unquestionable. The frescoes have recently been allocated to the last period of activity of the maestro, during 1334-35. Scholars have suggested that they recognise the hand of one or more of the maestro’s disciples, however the stylistic homogeneity appears to be even greater here than in the Cappella degli Scrovegni.
